March 2025 Newsletter

06 Apr 2025

March 2025
Welcome to our newsletter, bringing you monthly updates and all things Eastwood Cricket Club!

The weather has been beautiful for the last few days, and this has got us all at HQ excited for the cricket season, which is now only one month away! We spoke to new 3rd XI Captain, Alec Hume, on his plans ahead of the start of the new season:

“My ambition is to help the team maintain the strengths of last season, where we bowled and batted to a much better quality than in 2023. Hopefully we can have a strong core of regular players, while also inviting a few new faces in. I would also like to see some of the youth players get some experience of league cricket. Avoiding relegation is the first aim, but I’m excited to see how far we can go!”

Belfairs Sports and Social Club Update
We have sent out a note to members previously asking for members to volunteer to help with the running of the Clubhouse. Unfortunately to date we have received no interest from within the Club.

Gareth Ackery is due to step down from his role as Bar Manager and Treasurer in June, therefore his replacement(s) need to be briefed and trained accordingly prior to this point.

If BSSC are unable to find any volunteers it may mean requiring to employ someone, which of course comes with a cost that the Cricket Club will have to contribute towards. This could result in future increases to annual subs / BSSC membership. The alternative could even result in not having a clubhouse and bar at all.

If you are interested in volunteering or want to find out a bit more about what the role involves, please contact a member of the Committee ASAP.

Youth Section
In our last newsletter we asked for we asked for members to contact Kevin Robinson if they were willing to help him with managing the Youth Setup. Kevin has advised that we have received responses from a number of members, which is fantastic! Thank you to everyone who has done so! If anyone else would like to put their name forward, or find out more information about helping with the Youth Teams, please contact Kevin.
